Waterproof performance is a one of the most important features that customers demand of our synthetic paddock rugs. We select fabrics and waterproof membranes
to provide the best performance possible.
There are wide differences in the level of waterproofness that a fabric can have. To provide a measure of actual performance
fabrics can be tested against Australian Standard 2001.2.17-1987 Resistance of Fabrics to Water Penetration.
Test results for our fabrics exceed the highest level of performance as measured by this test which makes them as good
or better than any product on the market.
Breathability is also an important characteristic and our fabric membrane also has a high level of breathability performance.
It is important to note that
when the rug is wet the breathability is reduced as water blocks the membrane. This is typical of all breathable fabrics and is not a problem however
if the weather is hot/humid and raining then your horse can sweat under the rug. It may appear that water has leaked through the rug
when in fact the moisture is due to sweating. This is more common when using a rainsheet in hot weather and can be reduced by using a cotton under rug or avoiding rugging in this weather.
Canvas rugs are good for light showers but will not perform as well as a synthetic rug and can only be classed as showerproof. If waterproof performance is
very important to you then we would recommend a synthetic rug everytime.
